Nice site, I have linked it to the Bean Improvement Cooperative - BIC site as it will be most useful to our members. My regards to Dr. Lynch Jim Kelly

This is an excellent site for root biology community!!!

I think my codes for PlabQTL study could be put on this root methodology session too. Do you agree with me?

Hi

I'm PhD student in UPM

I want measure nodal root, lateral root growth, root angle and nitrate(NO3) rate in rice root.

pleas you introduce procedures of those measuring.

thank you

Mostafa

We measure angles using paper pouch studies and root crowns from the field. Please see the respective sections. We are working on a method for Nitrate uptake rate - but since we are in the testing face - you'll have to wait. Good luck with your work and we would be happy to hear from you more.
We measure angles often with imageJ after taking pictures of roots - you could look at the paper-pouch study methods. Angles are also quite easy to estimate. Growth can be measured by measuring length at different times. Either by regular harvests - or if you can work with hydroponics or paper pouch studies by regularly scanning the roots or photographing them. With the paper pouch studies orr root boxes you can also make markings with different collors on the pouch/root box. Your questions about nitrate is unclear to me.
